Barbara holds a master’s in business administration with major in tourism. She is an international senior sustainable tourism expert and founder, managing director and strategic head of AGEG Tourism for Sustainability (www.ageg-tourism.de). She has over 20 years of international experience in the field of sustainable tourism development, promotion and marketing. She and her team have advised over 50 destinations on how to become more sustainable.
Since its beginning, her company, AGEG Tourism for Sustainability, has been a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. Barbara has been working with the German International Cooperation (GIZ) on high-level sustainable projects for over 20 years. She has consulted on several EU-funded programmes, evaluated project proposals at a European level, and currently advises the European Travel Commission on implementing climate action at a European level. Since 2025, she is also a member of the WestMED Sustainable Tourism Expert Group.
